Research using nonhuman primates (NHPs) has become more important than ever in realizing progress in biomedicine. As we gain a deeper understanding of physiological systems, pathophysiological mechanisms and genetics, the need for study of certain conditions in NHPs has become increasingly evident. This new era of NHP research is in part a result of significant scientific and technological advances in genetics, immunology, endocrinology, reproductive biology, stem cell biology, biological imaging, and neuroscience.

NPRC researchers and collaborators are working to develop treatments and cures for HIV/AIDS, Parkinson’s disease, various forms of cancer, cystic fibrosis, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, obesity, rheumatoid arthritis, infertility, aging and many other conditions. The NPRCs are also engaged in research on emerging global infectious diseases such as COVID-19, Ebola, SARS, Malaria, Zika virus, Tuberculosis, and influenzas that continue to threaten human health.

The NPRCs welcome the opportunity to partner with investigators at the NIH Institutes and Centers, and other institutions to advance the development of treatments and cures for today’s most challenging diseases.
